talk to me about - poem by andrew b. clark des moines iowa

Talk to me about being sad.
Tell me about the ache, the pain, the weight of fate
that takes and takes until there’s nothing left.

Talk to me about “Tomorrow’s another day.”
As if you’d opened your eyes to nothing there,
talk to me about being sad.

Talk to me about being loved.
Tell me about the warmth, the glow, the security to know
what feeds your heart for a day and days beyond tomorrow.

Talk to me about “No greater feeling.”
As if you’d felt it for the very first time,
talk to me a bout being loved.

Talk to me about being scared.
Tell me about the night, the fright, the fears, the tears
that roll from our hearts into an endless night.

Talk to me about “It will be alright,”
As if our breathless screams and screams pierce the veil,
talk to me about being scared.

Talk to me about being proud.
Tell me about the joy, the warmth, the gush, the rush
of emotion that permeates our souls and hearts.

Talk to me about “This will last forever.”
As if we could ride on the pride for a lifetime or more,
talk to me about being proud.

Talk to me about being, because I’m young. I’m fresh. I’m new to life.
Talk to me because you’ve seen and felt and dealt.
Look back and back, and talk to me
about being new.

Talk to me about about being you.
