I’ve always been intrigued with the stories of conflict in The Bible. Having been raised Catholic and attended parochial schools as a young boy, the impressions of Jesus being nailed to the cross was such a violent and dramatic image. And the continuing, constant violence in the Bible is just amazing.
One day, while in the fit of one of my depressions, I looked up “Depression” as it pertains to the Bible, and I found 2Cornithians 2:7,11.
So that on the contrary you ought to forgive and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one be swallowed up with too much sorrow. Lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.
In retrospect, it is a very impactful passage. But it wasn’t a lot of help in “my time of need.” The drawing certainly reflects that.
I was glad The Bible recognized the horrors of depression, though. I wish some of those that follow it would as well…
